One day, while I was chatting with my team at my Tanglin hotel, a hunger pang set in. Rumpoles Bar was my first stop – they dished up some really delicious chicken wings during Happy Hour – did I mention it’s free-flow? The relaxed vibe at the bar tempted me to stay for the rest of the evening… but I also wanted to explore! So after a pint and more chickens than I could count, I asked the bartender when I should go next, and he pointed me to food at Dempsey Hill – with enough must-tries to fill a page!

Not more than a hop, skip and a jump from my hotel, I arrived quickly and was eager to see what the fuss was about. The slick modern restaurant and retail complex has a whole line of great places serving international cuisine, with shops and grocery stores to boot.

Glancing at my list, I made my way to Chopsuey Café. What a cute eating spot! Design is a kitsch take on colonial design, and the unique menu serves the Anglo-Chinese food its local founders grew up eating overseas. Go chicken rice balls and chop suey!

Next, I went in search of dessert. I couldn’t have missed Japan’s Henri Charpentier’s dazzling pink interiors if I tried. Settling in, I was swayed by several sweet treats, including a stacked mille-feuille, but I settled on a delicious crepe suzette to satisfy my sweet tooth. Then, happily full, I stopped by Australia’s Jones The Grocer, a luxurious grocery store with many a rare find, where I couldn’t resist picking up cured meats at the charcuterie. At gourmet boutique Culina, I grabbed a bag of coffee to share with the team at the hotel.

In fact, wandering around the rest of the airy space, I couldn’t help thinking this would be a great place for other foodies to hang out. It certainly brings something unique, with many food stuff I hadn’t seen before, and all of the bars and dining rooms looked like they had such exciting concepts. So! Calling fellow foodies! This is one place you must check out…

Dempsey Hill is conveniently close to the hotel. Ask my team to help you with your lunch or dinner reservations. But first, Happy Hour at Rumpoles Bar!
