Claws at the ready: Taste Singapore’s Best Crabs
Fights break out over which tastes best: Chilli or black pepper crab. Singapore is famous for both of these prized dishes so put your pincers away and order up both during your stay.
Hit the East Coast Seafood Centre for Jumbo Seafood and get dipping your buns in the rich tomato gravy before breaking open your crab shell. They do a mean pepper crab too. For a less fancy but equally tasty crab feast, try Eng Seng (247 Joo Chiat Place) who are well-known for their moreish pepper crabs. Not much beats sucking out fresh crabmeat from shells coated in their lip-smacking sauce.
If cracking shells just sounds like too much work, get all the great flavour of the iconic chilli crab with none of the agro at Ah Hoi’s Kitchen at Hotel Jen Tanglin Singapore with its chilli crab fondue. Crabmeat, prawns and cuttlefish are held in a bread bowl and covered in a tangy chilli tomato sauce. Tear apart the ‘bowl’ to mop up the goodness!
