Steeped in History: Liaoning Provincial Museum
I recently visited the Liaoning Provincial Museum, a specifically-designed building on the east side of Shenyang’s Government Square.
The museum is full of cultural relics, interesting exhibitions, ancient artefacts and beautiful paintings. What I found fascinating was the evolution of currency and money in China. In ancient times people used carved shells and metal shapes, eventually moving on to coins and paper money.
The pre-historic sections were very well done, too. The exhibit traced the stone ages and bronze ages through to recent times. It was impressive to see up close the ancient Neolithic Age carved jade art and the stunning Tang Dynasty round silk fan paintings.
P.S. Not every exhibit piece had an English description alongside the Chinese, but many of them did.
