Getting to Know Shenyang
Shenyang is a truly cosmopolitan city with more than 40 ethnic minorities calling it home. It's renowned for its history and culture, with Manchurian, Mongolian and Korean influences.
Start your journey through history at Mukden Palace, a World Heritage Site dating from the 1600s. This former imperial palace covers a whopping 60,000 square metres with more than 90 buildings and 300 rooms. Designed in the Manchurian architectural style, it's also very well preserved -- check out the incredible scrollwork in Chongzheng Hall, the imperial throne room. It's only 25 minutes' drive from my hotel.
Take engineering enthusiasts to the Steam Locomotive Museum, in China, or the Shen-air Museum, which features exhibitions on aircraft and space flights.
Located a little outside the city Hawaii Waterpark has a huge indoor beach and wave pool, plus plenty of slides.
