Explore the Changbai Mountains
Shenyang is a great base from which to explore the nearby mountain scenery. The impressive Changbai Mountain Range in Jilin province, on the border between China and North Korea, is not to be missed. Changbai, which means “always white”, is a mesmerising blend of snow-topped peaks, natural hot springs and beautiful landscapes.
Here are 3 things you must see when you hit the slopes:
Changbaishan Nature Reserve – A good graded natural reserve that houses Amur leopards, bears and mountain lions
Heaven Lake – A large crater lake that sits between Ryanggang Province in North Korea and China’s Jilin Province
Changbai Mountain – Also known as Baekdu, this active volcano stands at 2,745 metres and is the source of the Songhua, Tuman and Amnok rivers.
Trains run from Shenyang to Baihe Train Station and Antu Train Station. Coaches depart from both stations for the Changbaishan Mountain Scenic Area.
