Dazzling: Shenyang Palace in the Snow
I’m charmed by Shenyang Palace any time of year, but during snow season, the building and grounds are breathtaking.
Shenyang’s Imperial Palace was built in 1625 and is the only remaining royal palace outside of Beijing – all the better to lend the location a mystical air!
The vista is transfixing as snow flurries across Chong Zheng Dian, the former court, and settles like powder on the domes of the Ten Kings Pavilion and the three-storied Phoenix Tower.
Wrap up warm. Up here in Northeast China, the temperatures are sub-zero, but this place will warm your soul. It’s definitely one of the best places to see in Shenyang.
If you want to escape the snowdrifts for a while, go inside the interior compound, where you’ll find artefacts belonging to ancient rulers, paintings, calligraphy and lacquerware.
