28 March 2015

The management and staff at Hotel Jen Penang continue their revolution efforts to conserve energy and save the Earth by participating in the World Wide Fund for Nature’s (WWF) Earth Hour 2015 from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm. In conjunction with Earth Hour, Hotel Jen Penang had organised a string of programs throughout the day.

Beyond dimming the lights, the staff pitched in to make 200 tea candles from recycled cooking oil that was individually filled into seashell. These candles will be lit during Earth Hour to illuminate the hotel’s “The Islander” restaurant.

In addition to that, St. Nicholas’ Home, a non-profit multi-service institution serving the visually impaired throughout Malaysia joined us by providing in-house and dining guests a 15 minute massage per person. It is vital that people with visually impaired are infused with the culture of energy saving and are given the opportunity to actively participate to become better individuals. The main purpose of this activity was to encourage them to participate in society on equal basis and empowering persons with disabilities to be independent.

Besides that, ice tea and popcorn were served to the guests at the Hotel Lobby. Part of the beverages promotion are Earth Hour themed cocktail and mocktail priced at RM10++ and our resident band performed at the Lobby Lounge unplugged, to celebrate the special occasion.

Gavin Weightman, general manager of Hotel Jen Penang said, “Our priority is to create awareness and embracing the world to live more sustainably.”
