George Town is the food capital of Malaysia, and the night market is the place to start your gastronomic adventure in Penang. Here, travellers can taste a variety of local street food while shopping for souvenirs.

My favourite street food includes: Char Kway Teow (wok-fried flat noodles with prawns), Penang Laksa (sour and spicy fish soup served with noodles and mint leaves) and Oh Chien (fried oyster omelette). In addition, don’t miss the mouth-watering lok lok, also known as ‘dip dip’, which involves dipping sticks of tasty morsels into a communal boiling pot to cook them before eating with chili and peanut sauce.
