Making Waves: Watch Penang’s Dragon Boat Festival in Action
Penang’s 2016 International Dragon Boat Festival takes place on May 28 and 29, 2016 at scenic Teluk Bahang Dam, where teams from all over the world will compete. It’s easy to get down and see the races, and I love the scenic drive out to the dam.
To get there, take the beach road up to Batu Ferringhi from my hotel, past the butterfly farm to Teluk Bahang Village. There are buses or you can drive, but I like to join the many locals who cycle.
Dragon boat races take place all day, and are thrilling to watch – a boatload of action is guaranteed. I always carry on to Balik Pulau’s traditional town later in the day. The township is home to a stable and goat farm, as well as some of the island’s best locally grown fruits.
It’s great to take a break from George Town and fill my lungs with fresh air and good dragon-boat-racing fun.
