By George! Penang’s George Town Festival 2016
It’s back! The George Town Festival 2016 returns for another month-long extravaganza of shows. There’s everything from art, theatre and dance to workshops, music and stand-up comedy. Here are what you should go check out:
This exhibition (until August 28) is one of the awesome, freakiest things I’ve ever seen. Dutch artist Theo Jansen creates gigantic skeletal beasts (some as big as trucks) made of plastic tubes that eerily “come to life” with the force of the wind. You just have to see it!
Asian Gems in the Arts
If there is only one show you have to watch in this festival, it’s the Asian Gems in the Arts (AGA) performances (August 28). Showcasing and promoting unique talents from Asia, highlights of the show include the famous Jiangzhou Drum orchestra and an exciting new performance of Nuowu – the traditional Chinese exorcist dance, by contemporary dancer Chien-Wei Wu together with acclaimed Taiwanese composer Yiu-Kwong Chung.
