HOTEL JEN PENANG PARTNERS WITH WWF-MALAYSIA  TO SUPPORT EARTH HOUR 2017

Hotel Jen Penang by Shangri-La, pledgeS its support and puts its energy into celebrating Earth Hour, the environmental sustainable action organised by WWF-Malaysia. 
 
As part of the hotel’s initiatives and ongoing commitment to sustainability, Hotel Jen Penang is the main and only corporate sponsor for the WWF-Malaysia Earth Hour Night Walk 2017. 
 
Penang celebrates Earth Hour for the fourth time. This year, the Earth Hour Night Walk (about 5km) flagged off 1, 500 participants at the entrance of 1st Avenue Mall, located next to the hotel, at 8:30pm. 
 
At 8:30pm, the hotel switched off non-essential lights on its building facade and in public areas, such as the lobby, driveway and corridors. The hotel encouraged its employees to take part in the night walk by offering corporate hotel T-shirts.  
 
The Islander, the hotel’s all-day-dining restaurant offered candlelight dinner experience and a designated counter serving sustainable, organic and locally sourced dishes. The Lobby Lounge extended its Happy Hour with special and discounted beverages to encourage in-house guests to preserve the energy in the room. 
 
“Hotel Jen Penang is dedicated and active in our CSR efforts to better our communities and preserve our planet’s natural beauty and resources. Upholding our yearly Earth Hour tradition, we will switch off non-essential lights in our building and public areas, such as the lobby, driveway and corridors. To promote interaction between our guests, we have designated a section in our lobby with especially hand-crafted Earth Hour decoration. Our F&B team has also come up with a list of promotions and activities to encourage our guests to show their support by reducing the use of lighting and energy in their rooms during Earth Hour,” said Mr Tane Picken. 
 
Shangri-La hotels and resorts have unified all CSR initiatives under the umbrella brand Sustainability within five key areas: Environment, Health and Safety, Employees, Supply Chain, and Stakeholders. This campaign strives to educate our stakeholders, inspire and engage our employees, enjoin our business partners and align ourselves with the local community initiatives.
