Ody Odayappan knows the importance of service and loyalty in the world of hospitality. The Malaysian-born hotelier, a seasoned professional with 20 years of experience in luxury hospitality, has seen his career evolve and grow tremendously under one brand, Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts. 
Prior to this, Ody had a five-year stint as resident manager at Shangri-La Hotel, Wuhan, assisting the general manager in managing the daily operations and developing key strategies for the hotel. Throughout the years, the very hands-on Ody oversaw every aspect of the hotel’s management and development. 
As general manager, Ody is cut out for his tasks to set and maintain the Shangri-La standards for the “new” Hotel Jen Penang, as well as being responsible for the vision, growth and development while overseeing an over-M$60-million enhancement programme for the hotel. This enhancement programme, set to be completed by September 2017, will introduce its unique local surroundings, colours, design as it incorporates all the comfort and expectations of today’s travellers. 
“This is an exciting time for Hotel Jen Penang, as we are in the final phase of the enhancement programme. I am thrilled to be back to Penang, which is both a beautiful and a very competitive market. The property is exceptional in every way and I look forward to working with the local team to reinforce the brand along with Penang’s vision to become a great tourist destination in Malaysia and, hopefully, in Asia,” said Ody.
