Roti Canai: Three Ways
Practically a national dish, it’s impossible to come to Johor Bahru and not try the delicious bread and curry sauce combo that is roti canai. Enjoyed as breakfast and beyond all across the city, here’re Johor’s best three roti hotspots.
Jalan Tengku Azizah, Bukit Chagar, Jalan Jim Quee
Always crisp, never greasy! Perhaps that’s why this place always has such long lines. A favourite here is roti canai served with the mild dhal sauce. It’s incomparable.
Fendi Roti Canai
Jalan Persiaran Teratai, Taman Cempaka
Not to be confused with the luxury fashion brand the same name, this place is the haute cuisine of canai. Don’t be fooled by the smaller than average circumference of the pancake served at this famous street stall, the dough is thick, fluffy and filling. Their dal with sweet ‘n’ spicy sambal has a great kick.
Chef Prata & Noodle House
No. 8 Jalan Indah 28/01 Taman Bukit Indah
Ok, so roti canai is traditionally an Indian creation, but Malays and Chinese can’t get enough of them either. Chinese flavours influence the roti at this place and it can be ordered with sweet red bean, luncheon meat, chicken floss or even milo. That’s roti for dinner and dessert then?
