Two Spots to See Hong Kong’s Dragon Boat Festival
In town for Hong Kong’s Dragon Boat festival? You’re bound to get caught up in the excitement, and might even hear the beat of a drum from the boats from the city, but the place to be this holiday is with the locals watching the races. I’ll be at two iconic locations to catch local and international teams competing in Hong Kong’s famous Dragon Boat races.
On June 9th I’ll be sliding off my sandals and hitting the sand at Stanley’s main beach. Stanley has long been a popular place to view teams racing the Stanley Dragon Boat Championships, so expect crowds. But don’t worry, the happy hoards here add to the event’s energetic atmosphere, and junks docked in the bay offer a closer view with a party vibe – and everyone is invited!
And, making a newer debut is the Dragon Boat carnival down at Central’s Victoria Harbourfront on June 10-12th. Clowns, marching bands and lion dances will be weaving their way through the revellers at this prime city location, with live music from local bands and San Miguel’s Beer Fest adding to the entertainments as the dragon boats race across the waves.
I can’t wait to try out both events – come join me and join the fun!
June 9 is a public holiday so expect a party spirit! It’s easy to reach Stanley from my hotel, just ask my team to show you the way.
