Hotel Jen Hong Kong, by Shangri-La, is delighted to announce a new mixed-media art exhibition – Reconnect, with Sharu Sikdar –intent on reconnecting viewers with themselves through nature.
Sharu Binnong Sikdar is a Hong Kong born Indian Filipino. She graduated with a BFA in Painting at the Savannah College of Art and Design, Hong Kong.
As a mixed-media artist, she has showcased in several group exhibitions in Hong Kong. Sikdar is best known for utilizing natural materials as her medium of works. She is inspired by the bond between nature and humans, bringing attention to objects often unnoticed through the action of manipulating, deconstructing and framing.
The exhibition, Reconnect, presents 3 different series of work which emphasize the bond between nature and humans. It begins with watercolor drawings inspired by Chinese banyan trees, which are culturally significant in Hong Kong. The tree roots are abstracted to represent the cultural roots of people, always morphing and ever-changing.
The works then travel between each othe,r through series of leaves that symbolize strength, vulnerability and healing through human interactions through the act of stitching.
Sidkar then invites viewers to pause and contemplate in her wood bark series, where the sunset is fragmented in transitioning colors.
