Further Afield: Getting Out and About
Hong Kong isn't just about its bustling Central and Kowloon districts. Try an excursion further afield to see a completely contrasting side of the city.
Dial down the pace with a lazy day on Lamma Island. Simply take the ferry at Pier 4 in Central and hire bikes from Lamma's main village, Tung Shue Wan, for an afternoon of leisurely exploration. Finish it off with a seafood dinner back at the village.
Sunbathe and swim at a local beach. Take a short scenic bus ride across Hong Kong Island to one of the beautiful beaches on the south or east side. Try Shek O or the neighbouring Big Wave Bay, or stop by Stanley, which also has a large local market and plenty of cafes and restaurants, for a seaside lunch.
Cue splendour of a different kind – take the ferry to Macau for the day and go wild in its extravagant casinos. Be sure to try a Portuguese Egg Tart while you're there. The island has a completely unique cuisine, and this flaky custard pastry is an all-round favourite.
