HOTEL JEN PENANG BY SHANGRI-LA WELCOMES NEW EXECUTIVE CHEF AFIFI
PENANG, MALAYSIA – September 2, 2019 – Hotel Jen Penang by Shangri-La announces the appointment of Mohd Afifi bin Abu Bakar as its new executive chef.
In his new role, Chef Afifi will showcase his creativity and will be responsible for overseeing all dining outlets at the hotel.
Chef Afifi brings with him more than 26 years of culinary expertise gained from working in various kitchens at hotels and restaurants around Malaysia.
Growing up in Kuala Lumpur, Chef Afifi always knew he wanted to become a professional chef. He began his culinary journey by drawing inspirations from his mother’s cooking.
Continuously focusing on creative collaborations with his fellow chefs, he is especially adept at taking traditional flavours and infusing them with global influences to explore new food trends and opportunities for the ever-exciting culinary scene in Penang.
‘I am excited to join the team at Hotel Jen Penang and will work towards taking the culinary team to greater heights,’ the hotel’s new executive chef said.
Chef Afifi added that Penang is a beautiful island, world famous for its fascinating street food, thanks to its rich multicultural diversity heritage.
He will work with Food & Beverage Manager, Thiruvendran C. Thiruchelvam (Indran) to invite diners to embark on a brand-new contemporary dining journey and adventure.
