HOTEL JEN PENANG GIVES HOPES TO CHILDREN WITH CONGENITAL HEART DEFECT
Hotel Jen Penang presented cheques amounting to MYR 20,000 to two children under the hotel’s “EMBRACE Gift of Hope” programme in a private event held in the hotel’s ballroom recently. The patients’ family members, together with the hotel’s employees and senior management team, were also in attendance.
The two receivers, Eunice Goh Yu Lu and Nur Aneesa Insyirah, were born with a hole in the heart, a congenital heart defect that is commonly present at birth. The defect may present complications in later life or adulthood. Both children have successfully completed the occlusion procedure at Penang General Hospital last month.
Ody Odayappan, general manager of Hotel Jen Penang, presented mock cheques to the children’s families. Also present were Area CSR & Sustainability Manager Wong Yaw Ling and Communications Manager Ellie Yeoh.
“The programme will benefit the many patients and families whose lives have been affected by heart disease and cancer,” said Mr Ody. “We are grateful to Penang Hospital for their support and collaboration throughout.”
Hotel Jen Penang’s EMBRACE Gift of Hope started in 2015 with the aim to fund cancer treatments for children from low socio-economic-status (SES) families within Penang and the northern regions. Beginning this year, Hotel Jen Penang has opened the funding to paediatric cardiology in view of the increasing number of paediatric patients recommended doctors recommended for ventricular septal defect (VSD) occlusion.
