Hotel Jen Penang by Shangri-La recently announces the appointment of Tane Picken as its new general manager. 
Hailing from South Africa, Tane has been in the hospitality industry for 16 years and garnered valuable hotel management experience in almost 10 countries, including Malaysia, Thailand, China, Singapore and the Middle East.  
Prior to this, Tane was the hotel manager at Golden Sands Resort, Penang by Shangri-La, assisting the general manager in managing the daily operations and developing key strategies for the family resort. He has also held various senior management positions, such as in sales and marketing, including as cluster director of business development, for a five-star hospitality establishment and various operational divisions at international hotels worldwide.     
Tane’s exceptional skills in customer service and passionate and intuitive understanding of quality greatly demonstrate the Shangri-La’s heartfelt hospitality and experiences. Tane will begin planning for the repositioning of the “new” Hotel Jen Penang and responsible for the vision, growth, development while overseeing the M$63 million enhancement programme for the hotel. 
Set to be completed by August 2017, the programme encompasses the entire Hotel Jen Penang in three phases: all 443 guestrooms and suites; public spaces, including the lobby, the popular Club Lounge and the corridors; and re-design of the lobby and reception desk, along with Hotel Jen’s signature On-The-Go lobby coffee shop. The hotel remains fully operational during the enhancement process. 
The hotel will introduces its unique local surroundings, colours, design and incorporates all the comfort and expectations of today’s travellers. It is the hotel’s first major enhancement programme in 30 years since it opened in 1986.
